I love how FB lets me connect to people who I normally don't see outside MDRF.
But I really hate how it lets people post harsh and rude comments on the MDRF FB page.
And I hate even more that it means that Carolyn (the Artistic Director who casts, schedules, writes scripts, helps cast create and develop characters so that no matter what the story line is they can still perform at Faire and directs & lets-be-quite-frank-practically-has-to-babysit Shakespeare's Skum) has to read those comments.
I know that MDRF is not perfect but there are so many details that go into running it correctly that the only reason people are able to see the flaws are because so much other work has already been done.
I know it doesn't help to debate people who post angry posts. The fact that they do not take the time to create a draft or wait to type until their emotions are cooled shows that they do not want a conversation they just want to vent.
So I wanted to invite everyone to whenever you see someone post something negative, rude or blunt.*
Let's not even acknowledge that post and then post something we like about the Faire.
And maybe a link to a FB performer or picture so that our posts are more eye-catching?
*I know negative, rude & blunt are open to interpretation.
So let's just say anything that if you read that post and had never attended MDRF it might may you think twice before attending?

Hear! Hear! There is entirely too much rudeness and downright meanness in our society these days. I pine for the times when some people were merely impolite.

i 100% agree with this! i HATE trolls too....in the one about passes, i tried to bring up the benefits, but that particular troll just wanted to continue her biatch tirade......and it's funny, i don't think i KNOW the negative posters.......but yeah.....the 'positive' vendetta is an AWESOME counterstrike....not even address THEIR issues, but bliss about the subject in it's positive senses......

Prax and I were just talking about this earlier when we were leaving the site. There are things about the festival that I like and things that I don't, but it is "THE" festival I go to. Without fail I am there every day, every season because I love the place. There have been decisions made over the years that I didn't agree with but it's not my business, it's not how I earn a living so I make the best of it. While I feel there is nothing wrong constructive criticism or even the voicing of opinion I am disgusted by the comments and attitudes of more then a few people. I already told Carolyn thank you for all of the hard works she does making our faire the best, I think a huge part of the success of the MDRF is the entertainment our faire boasts. I appreciate every person who does what they do at the MDRF because without them it just wouldn't be. I am also very proud of the fact that very rarely have any of members decided to be rude on our message boards.
Sorry, I just had to chime in.

One thing I "love" (in the ironic sense) is how what a lot of the complainers want is mutually exclusive. Don't move the faire to a more spacious location ... but put in more stages and booths, and do something about all the crowding. Don't get rid of any of the old acts ... but bring in new ones, and don't raise any prices. Don't change anything about any of the shows ... but do something so that it's not the same old thing every time. In other words, don't change a thing ... but make everything new and better.

The Positive Vendetta is a wonderful idea. Some people may only see the FB page and decide weather or not to come to faire. I have never met Carolyn or can even begin to imagine how much of a headache putting together all the performances and keeping us all up to date on what is going is but she is doing great! Being bombarded with negative and the five hundredth person asking "will Albannach be there?" Has got to drain a person down. Filling FB with sunshine and roses might just make people excited about opening day!

I just now saw a snotty post from Sunday and really want to kick someone in the giblets.
Must ... sublimate feelings of impotence ... with nice posts about other acts...
... but still want to kick someone in the tenderloin...

Although i've only been to MDRF once (back in 2006) I can only imagine what you guys must go through having to read all those negative posts on a daily basis the way you do so for the record I agree with Daisy that starting a positive vendetta would be a brilliant idea in the long run.

I concur with Lumpy. I think that when criticisms or opinions are warranted, they are best made in private and with civility. You may find your idea was tried or considered but not done for very legitimate reasons or you may have present something the MDRF staffed never thought of before. Good manners goes a long way to accomplish things.
Thanks to all of the MDRF staff for their hard work to make this faire a success year after year.
